Hi from Japan!

Standard

In Tokyo Narita Airport xD flight was fine, I slept enough, food was absolutely horrible, had Amma’s theplas, was somehow able to navigate all the terms and conditions and such (based on whatever little Japanese I knew and my world knowledge of connecting to wifi in foreign places) and connected to Internet.

Bye xD

  1. Lama: I like the way you travel. 3,000 miles to learn Japan and Japanese culture, but damned if you’re not going to make the trip with theplas, mirchi ka achar, and some Bollywood tunes. You go, dude! This is how India will conquer the world– with masala of one kind or the other… Your food situation will definitely improve once you are out of the gastro-tomb of America…

BTW, your OTHER aunt has a parlor game where she asks people, “If you could have only ONE cuisine, what would it be?” etc. My reply, probably yours as well, would be “Indian.” Your Greek uncle’s was– J APANESE! I expect you will share this view after a few weeks too…

Keep up the fabulous postings. We love them!

  2. Hi Amal,
I learnt that you are in Okinawa, Japan, and remembered something I learnt in school. I learnt in Geography that Okinawa has a lot of centenarians (100 year olds). This makes Okinawa a “Blue zone” (high population of centenarians). There are not a lot of “Blue zones” so this is special. So don’t be surprised if you see a lot of old people.

  3. Hi Amalendu,

So you have landed in the Land of Rising Sun and Bullet Trains, remembering “Daal-Bhat” on the flight !!!!

You know what a coincident, it was I who also realized importance of “Daal-Roti” when I was in Japan in ’80s and I used to mention it to everyone when I came to India for a short visit 3 months after reaching Japan!!!!

But you will get accustomed gradually with their food as well as their wooden tiffin boxes and omlettes stuffed with rice as well as Tempura. There are Indian Restaurants at every nook and corner in Tokyo if you look for it but I don’t know if they will let you go and if you will find someone to accompany you!

    Enjoy your trip….Dada
